How to Copy a Movie to a Hard Disk

Due to the increase of computers in the common household, movies and other media are slowly moving away from hard copies such as DVDs and shifting more towards digital copies. If you have a large collection of DVDs, you may wish to move your movies onto your computer in order to save space and make it easier to find specific movies instead of sorting through stacks of cases. Copying movies onto a computer is made convenient by the large number of programs that specialize in this task.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your web browser and use a search engine to find a DVD-ripping program. Some popular programs include DVD Rip, AoA DVD Copy and WinX DVD Ripper.

    • 2

Insert your DVD into your computer. Open your DVD-ripping program and select your DVD drive as the "Source."

    • 3

Select what file type you would like your movie to be in. There are different formats such as AVI and MPEG that differ in things such as quality and size.

    • 4

Select the destination folder on your computer that you want to copy the movie into. Remember which folder this is so you can find the movie once it is done ripping.

    • 5

Click on the "Start" button to begin copying your movie from your DVD to your computer's hard disk.
