Select the chapters or tracks you want to rip from the DVD. Most DVD players have a display feature that shows the section and chapter currently being played. For example, a television show will display as separate sections for each episode, and every episode will be divided into chapters. You can determine which chapter you are watching by monitoring the display, and can then rip that specific chapter. Make a list of the tracks you wish to copy if you plan to rip multiple files.
Insert the DVD into the computer and open the ripping software. Locate the DVD's section and chapter files within the ripping program. Different copying software will vary in how they organize files, but in general there will be a main folder for each section of the DVD. For TV series, each folder is a single episode. For movies, the main movie will be in a single section/file, with special features in additional separate sections. Match the sections and chapters you have noted during your viewing session to the sections and chapters shown in the software.
Mark the chosen chapters for copying. Each individual chapter should have a check box next to it. If this box is checked, that chapter will be copied. Check only the chapters you wish to copy.
Decide where to save the files you wish to copy. If necessary, create a new folder to keep the files organized.
Copy your chapters. Depending on how much you have decided to copy, this could take a few minutes to several hours.
