How to Copy a Music CD to a Hard Disk

Copying a music CD to a hard drive is a good way to archive your music collection. You can copy a music CD to a hard drive using Windows Media Player or iTunes. Because Windows Media Player comes installed on all PCs and iTunes comes installed on all Macs, this process can be done quickly and conveniently with either program.

Instructions

  1. On a PC

      Open Windows Media Player.

      Insert the music CD into your computer that you want to copy to your hard disk.

      Click the “Rip” button, click “Start Rip” and Windows Media Player will copy the music CD to your hard disk.

      Access these files by clicking “Start,” selecting “Music,” clicking “iTunes” and clicking “iTunes Music.” You have now successfully copied a music CD to a hard disk (See References 1).

    On a Mac

      Open iTunes.

      Insert the music CD into your computer that you want to copy to your hard disk.

      Click “Yes” from the prompt that appears and iTunes will copy the music CD to your hard disk.

      Access these files by clicking “Finder,” selecting “Music,” clicking “iTunes” and clicking “iTunes Music.” You have now successfully copied a music CD to a hard disk (See References 2).
