How to Copy Movies to a PlayStation 3 Hard Drive

The Sony PlayStation 3 comes with an internal hard drive that can hold music, games, photos and movies. Getting movies onto your PS3's hard drive is very simple because of the USB interface that is available with all PS3 models. Copying your movie files from to an external USB drive, and then copying the movie file to your PS3 is a relatively easy process, and will help turn your PS3 into a home theater center, and not just a video game console.

      Connect your external storage device to your computer and locate the movie file that you want to copy to the PS3. Right-click the file and click "Copy."

      Open the external storage device on your computer and right-click any open space on it. Click "New" and "Folder" to create a new folder. Name it "PS3" and open it. Create a new folder in here and name it "VIDEO."

      Right-click the "VIDEO" folder and click "Paste" to transfer the movie file to your external storage device. Safely disconnect it from your computer after the transfer is complete.

      Plug the external storage device into your PS3 via its USB port. Go into the video section on the PS3 and select your "USB Device" from the list. The PS3 will search for video files. Select your video file and press the "Triangle" button to bring up the copy menu.

      Select "Copy" and your movie file will be transferred to the PS3 hard drive.
