Whether you’re in the mood for a good laugh, or a fun evening out doing something a little different, a comedy club might just hit the spot. There are several comedy clubs in Tempe, Arizona, each a little different. Some feature national acts, some spotlight local performers and others focus on improvisational comedy with seasoned in-house performers.

  1. Tempe Improv

    • The Improv Comedy Club in Tempe features nationally renowned comedian performers, as well as local upstart comics, who typically open for the headlining act. The club is located adjacent to a full-bar lounge that serves appetizers and bar fare. There is a one drink minimum for the club. The club is open to all aged 18 and over; those under 21 will be seated in a “dry” section. Seating is first come first serve, so be sure to arrive early for an 8 pm show. Seating for 10 pm shows is based on pre-purchased tickets.

    The Comedy Spot

    • Located about 15 minutes outside of Tempe, in downtown Scottsdale, The Comedy Spot books local and national acts from across the country. There is a two-drink minimum at the club's full bar. Weekly comedy shows run Thursdays and Sundays at 7 pm, and Fridays and Saturdays at both 8 pm and 10 pm. The Comedy Spot is supportive of local comic performers, and offers monthly Open Mic nights, on the last Sunday of each month, where stand-ups can perform and have their performance recorded for use as a demo reel. According to the club, the Open Mic nights are similar to those held in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York, where comics with no prior experience can use the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience and promote themselves. The club also offers comedy classes each Sunday afternoon, at a cost of $100 per month.

    Jester’Z Improv Comedy

    • Located just minutes from Tempe, on the southern edge of Scottsdale, Jester’Z Improv Comedy Club opened in 2001, and specializes in both live comedy performances and traveling comedy productions. The club’s troupe of in-house actors, comedians and stand-up comics perform for corporations across the country, and host live improvisational performances at Jester’Z Improv Comedy Club each Friday and Saturday night at 8 pm and 10 pm. Performances are interactive, and each is unique to the audience participation. Shows are family-friendly, and open to all ages. Comedy classes are also provided, including private coaching and advanced improv workshops.
