Virginia Comedy Clubs

The state of Virginia is situated just south of the nation's capital. Many comedy clubs are located in popular tourist spots like Virginia Beach and have a broad range of audiences, from foreign to local. These clubs offer some of the biggest names in comedy, Other clubs have a more local flavor, and focus on comedic talent close to home.

  1. Virginia Beach

    • The Virginia Beach Funny Bone Comedy Club and Restaurant offers a night out that includes dinner and a comedy show, or the comedy show alone with a full bar option. Doors open an hour before the show starts so guests can enjoy dinner. The menu is American-style with burgers, sandwiches, fries, chicken tenders to start and more sophisticated main courses like grilled mahi mahi and New York strip steak. The comedy club is open seven nights a week and reservations are not taken. All tables are offered on a first come, first served basis. A monthly calendar is on hand with details on all comedy shows and comedians. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights hold two shows, one earlier in the evening (8 p.m.) and one following (10:30 p.m.). This comedy club showcases famous faces in comedy like DL Hughley, Loni Love, Jerry Seinfeld and Drew Carey. Comedy workshops and competitions are also held every month.

    Newport News

    • Cozzy's Comedy Club is in Newport News and is open on Friday nights for one 9 p.m. show and Saturday nights with two shows at 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. All shows are non-smoking although there is a smoking lounge. There are also open night mic opportunities for new talent and for audiences who enjoy less seasoned comics. Comedy School is held once a week to teach the ropes to aspiring comics and provide support and teaching aids. An extensive American-style menu is available and includes salads, burgers, sandwiches and fries. The club can be rented for fundraisers and private comedy parties.

    Richmond

    • Richmond is the state capital of Virginia and also home to Rita's Comedy Club. Rita's is located inside the Comfort Inn hotel and is open on Friday and Saturday nights and has two shows per night. Tickets are $10 if booked in advance online or via phone, or $12 at the door. Group discounts are available and free popcorn is available for all guests. Food and beverages are not available in the club but are for sale in the lobby outside the club and guests often congregate there before the show.
