The Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase doesn't draw mega stars like David Chappelle or Drew Carey. But the club near the University of Michigan attracts touring professionals and up and comers. The weekly headliners typically perform Friday and Saturday nights. Every Wednesday is "Comedy Jamm," which features a mix of newcomers and veteran comics trying out new material. Open mic night is held on Thursday. The Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase is an 18-and-over club. It sells alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and snacks, but does not have a drink minimum.

Tim Allen and Dave Coulier got their start at Mark Ridley's Comedy Castle's open mic night in 1979, according to the club. Through the years, big names like Jim Carrey, Rosie O'Donnell, Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld and Jon Stewart have appeared at the club. The Comedy Castle has shows Thursday to Saturday with a three-tier format. A fledgling comic opens, followed by a polished local comedian. A nationally known headliner typically finishes the show. Comedy Castle also holds an open mic night every Wednesday. The 18-and-over club serves alcohol and soft drinks, but doesn't have a drink minimum. There is a limited sandwich menu.
