Open Mic Comedy Clubs in California

If you want to be a comedian or just want to be entertained by a variety of stand up comedy, from new talent to homegrown celebrities, then California is the place to be, as entertainment is at the heart of Californian culture, and is big business. So you will not have to look far to find an open mic night, whether it be in an arty coffee shop in the middle of Hollywood's Theater Row or in world famous comedy clubs, headlining well-known stars.
  1. HaHa Cafe Comedy Club

    • HaHa Cafe Comedy Club, founded in 1988, is a full-time comedy club, with a full calendar of comedy shows, from nurturing new talent in talent contests and open mic nights to hosting celebrity comedy evenings.

      A bar and restaurant is available, catering for a wide range of tastes, offering traditional club menus to international cuisine. Minimum age is 18 to be permitted entry into the club and two items of identification are required at the door. There is also a strict dress code and so people wearing shorts or tank tops will not be admitted.

      Open mic nights run from Sunday to Thursday, sign up is 5.30pm with shows starting at 6pm.

    The Comedy Store

    • The Comedy Store is a world famous comedy club having headlined many well-known comedians, such as Robin Williams, Richard Pryor, Whoopi Goldberg, Eddie Murphy and Jim Carey, to name but a few. It is a full-time club open seven days per week.

      You must be 21 to enter the Comedy Store. A bar is available, and a two-drink minimum rule applies.

      Open mic nights are available on scheduled nights listed in the diary of events. Sign up is between 6pm to 6.30pm. Show at 7pm.

    Cafe Muse

    • Cafe Muse is located in Hollywood's Theater Row. It was opened by two theater artists who wanted to run a creative comedy cafe in the heart of theatre land. They are a cafe and a coffee shop, serving up a varied menu of comfort food, also catering for vegetarians and vegans. They operate a rotating art gallery and offer free entertainment, such as piano music, cabaret, poetry readings and music and comedy open mic nights. Comedy open mic nights take place every Wednesday, with sign up at 8pm and the show at 8.30pm.

    Laugh Factory

    • Laugh Factory is a comedy club focusing on developing new talent, including youngsters, and holding auditions to participate in comedy nights. They host a variety of comedy evenings, from all star evenings to open mic nights. Open mics take place every Tuesday evening, and sign up is at 5pm for the next week's show. Get there early, as places go fast because there are only 15 comedy slots. Show starts at 6pm.
