Fostex VF160 Recording Instructions

The VF160 from Fostex is a digital multi-track recorder that has many functions and features. It has a built-in digital mixer, a high-performance multi-effect processor and balanced XLR inputs, as well as 1/4-inch inputs, outputs and inserts. The recorder section features 16 tracks of digital audio, which is recorded at 44.1 kilohertz to an internal hard disk. Each channel of the mixer section includes an on/off button, three-band equalizer and pre- or post-send auxiliary send.

Instructions

      Turn on power to the VF160. Lower the fader for track 1. Connect instrument or microphone to INPUT for track 1. Press the "INPUT SEL" key. Press the "DIRECT-REC TRK" key. Press the "CH STATUS/CH SEL" key for mixer channel 1. Press the "EXIT/NO" key, which returns the user to the Normal Display mode. Connect headphones to the headphone jack or monitors to the "MON" jacks.

      Press the "RECORD" key to place track 1 in Input Monitor mode. Adjust the fader for track 1 to zero. Adjust the "MASTER" fader to zero. Adjust the track 1 "TRIM" control while playing instrument or singing until the "PEAK LED" flashes. Raise the level of the "HEADPHONE" knob, or raise the "MON" knob until a comfortable listening level is achieved.

      Press the "REWIND" key while holding down the "STOP" key to reach ABS zero. Press the "RECORD" key while pressing the "PLAY" key simultaneously to begin recording. Press the "STOP" key when you're finished recording. Wait for the display to return to Normal Mode when it reads "Please Wait." Press the "REWIND" and "STOP" keys to return to the beginning. Press the "PLAY" key to listen to the newly recorded track.
