How to Edit on a Fostex MR8

The Fostex MR-8 is a compact digital multi-track recorder which records eight tracks of digital audio onto a CompactFlash media card. It records at 44.1 kilohertz at 16 bit resolution or 22.05 kilohertz at 16-bit resolution in extended mode. The MR-8 is equipped with an eight-channel digital mixer and built-in digital effects. The unit allows overdubbing, track bouncing and mix-down as well as digital editing feature like copy-paste and edit-delete. The MR-8 also features an LCD display screen, metronome and built-in microphone.

  1. Editing on the MR-8

      Select the song you want to edit. Press the "Menu" key to enter the menu mode. Use the "Cursor" key to select the song-select menu. Press the "Enter" key. Scroll to the song you want to edit using the "Cursor" key. Press the "Enter" key again to load the song.

      Edit the name of the song. Press the "Menu" key. Use the "Cursor" key to select the Song option from the list. Press "Enter." Use the "Cursor" key to scroll to the Rename Song option. Press "Enter" again. Use the character entry keys to name the song. Use the "Cursor" keys to move the selected letter. Move the cursor to Enter using the "Cursor" key when finished naming. Press "Enter" to complete the naming process.

      Delete an unnecessary song by pressing the "Menu" key. Use the "Cursor" key to select the song-select menu. Press the "Enter" key. Use the "Cursor" key to select the Delete Song option. Press the "Enter" key again. Use the "Cursor" key to scroll to the song you want to delete. Press the "Enter" key again. Press the "Cursor" key while holding down the "Record" key. Press the "Menu" key to exit menu mode.

      Erase track data by pressing the "Menu" key. Use the "Cursor" key to select the Track menu. Press the "Enter" key. Use the "Cursor" key to select the track to be erased. Use the "Cursor" keys to move the cursor to the Enter option on screen. Press the "Enter" key again. Press the "Enter" key yet again.

      Copy track data by pressing the "Menu" key. Use the "Cursor" key to select the Track menu. Press the "Enter" key. Use the "Cursor" key to select Copy-Paste Trk on screen. Press "Enter." Use the "Cursor" keys to move the cursor to the Source Track option on screen. Use the "Cursor" keys to select the track number to be copied on screen. Press the "Enter" key again. Use the "Cursor" keys to move to the Dest. Track option on screen. Select the track number to be copied to. Use the "Cursor" keys to move to the Enter option on screen. Press the "Enter" key again. Press the "Menu" key to return to menu mode.
