Lower all faders and the headphone output or other monitoring device. Apply power to the VF80EX. Raise the MASTER fader to zero. Connect headphones or other monitors. Turn up the headphones or other monitoring equipment. Connect an instrument or microphone to INPUT A. Raise the fader for track 1 until it reaches zero.
Press the "TRACK STATUS/TRACK SEL" key, which will make the key light flash red. Press the "RECORD" key to place the VF80EX into input monitor mode. Turn the "TRIM" knob for INPUT A while singing or playing an instrument to adjust gain settings. Watch the "PEAK" indicator to make sure the unit is not overloading.
Press "REWIND" and "STOP" to locate ABS zero point. Press "PLAY" and "RECORD" keys at the same time to begin recording. Press "STOP" when you're finished. Press "REWIND" and "STOP" together to return to the zero point. Press "PLAY" to listen to the playback. Repeat the process until you achieve a satisfactory recording. Press the "TRACK STATUS/TRACK SEL" key to disable recording on track 1.
Connect an instrument to "INPUT A." Press the "TRACK STATUS/TRACK SEL" key for track 3, making the indicator flash red. Raise the fader for track 3 to zero. Press the "RECORD" key, which begins flashing. Adjust the "TRIM" knob for INPUT A while playing an instrument to adjust gain settings. Watch the "PEAK" indicator to be certain the unit is not overloading. Turn down "TRIM" if it is.
Press the "STOP" and "REWIND" keys to return to the zero point. Press the "RECORD" and "PLAY" keys simultaneously to begin recording. Play along with the previously recorded track 1. Press the "STOP" key when you're finished. Press the "REWIND" and "STOP" keys simultaneously to return to the beginning. Listen to the playback. Repeat until you achieve a satisfactory recording.
Disable recording for track 3 by pressing the "TRACK STATUS/TRACK SEL" key. Press the "TRACK STATUS/TRACK SEL" for track 5. Raise the fader for track 5 to zero. Press the "RECORD" key, which begins flashing. Adjust the "TRIM" knob for INPUT A while playing an instrument to adjust gain settings. Watch the "PEAK" indicator to make sure the unit is not overloading. Turn down "TRIM" if necessary.
Press the "STOP" and "REWIND" keys to return to the zero point. Press the "RECORD" and "PLAY" keys simultaneously to begin recording. Play along with the previously recorded tracks 1 and 3. Press the "STOP" key when you're finished. Press the "REWIND" and "STOP" keys simultaneously to return to the beginning. Listen to the playback. Repeat until you're satisfied with the result.
Mix down the recorded tracks. Connect "ST OUT L/R" jacks to the input jacks on an analog recorder. Set the input level on the external recorder. Start recording on the external recorder, and press "PLAY" on the VF80EX. Adjust playback levels by moving the faders for tracks 1, 3 or 5 up or down to taste. Add effects to the mix to taste. Press "STOP" when you're finished mixing. Press "STOP" on the external recorder. Listen to the playback on the external recorder. Repeat this process as needed.
