Music Festivals Near Chama, New Mexico

Chama is surrounded by mountains, waterfalls and lush green fields. Besides its beautiful scenery, the area offers plenty of activities and events year-round. From winter sports like skiing to all kinds of festivals in the warmer months, Chama has a lot to offer people who love nature and the arts. Outside the area, you will also find a number of musical events.
  1. Chama Music Festival

    • During the month of July, the Chama Music Festival offers a variety of different music. From gospel and jug bands to cabaret performances, the event can appeal to everyone. One of its past events included a concert in Osier in the mountains, which offered a train ride. The festival is held at the Chama Valley Community Center on Pine Avenue.

    Taos Solar Music Festival

    • The Taos Solar Music Festival, located 95 miles from Chama, is held during a weekend in June at Kit Carson Memorial Park. It's free to the public, doors open 10:30 a.m. and tickets are available online until the day before the event as well at the door on the day of the event. There are a number of live bands that perform both days. Past performances have included Robert Mirabal, Jakob Dylan, Cherryholmes, Todd Snider and Kim & the Caballeros. There are nearby hotels as well as the option to camp within the vicinity of the festival for $50 per person as of 2010.

    EXPO New Mexico State Fair

    • Located 168 miles away in Albuquerque, the EXPO New Mexico State Fair is one of the largest fairs in the nation and the biggest show in New Mexico. It offers free entertainment, concerts, competitions, rodeos, carnival rides, games, farm animals, horses, agricultural and art. It is held annually during September at Expo New Mexico, with 236 acres of activities for the whole family.

    The Thirsty Ear Festival

    • The Thirsty Ear Festival, located 106 miles away in Santa Fe, is an annual three-day festival that celebrates grassroots music. It started in 1999 and has been a popular event for music lovers all over the country. It is held at the Eaves Movie Ranch and features three stages with live performances in folk, blues, Cajun, zydeco, roots rock, bluegrass and alt-country artists. Along with food, local beer and wine, there also are a number of activities for children such as puppet shows, face painting and arts and crafts hosted by he Santa Fe Children's Museum and Pink Elephant Theater.
