Eco Music Festivals

Due to the threats humanity poses to the environment, groups whose goals are to make positive change through fundraising and education have emerged. Some of these groups use musical festivals to help educate and raise funds. Four eco music festivals, two in the United States and two in Europe, have emerged with the goal of changing the world.
  1. Eco Music Festival

    • Eco Music Festival, or EMU, is a festival held in Snowmass Village, a mountain town in Colorado. The event describes itself as a PPI, or Partying for Positive Impact, event. Events include a number of concerts and a 3-kilometer race up a nearby mountain. Ticket sales go toward growing new trees in desolate areas. Certain competitions at the festival are created to raise funds for green schools and ecological education.

    Groundswell Festival

    • Groundswell is a eco music festival held in Angresse in southwestern France in the middle of September. This location is 5 minutes from Hossegor Centre Village and 10 minutes from France's beaches. The festival features multiple stages that have played hosts to musicians such as Jason Mraz and Felix Da Housecat. Environmentally-conscious travelers can take advantage of the festival's sustainable travel accommodations from nearby Hossegor.

    Grassroots Music Festival

    • Grassroots Music Festival is a single-day music festival held in Val De La Mare, Jersey, in late July. The festival, which aims to create sensitivity for the environment, has included musicians such as Seasick Steve, Ben Howard and Rick Jones. Tickets to this festival can be ordered online. Children age 4 and younger are granted free admission. Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

    Clearwater Festival

    • Clearwater is a festival dedicated to inspiring and educating the next generation's environmental leaders. It is consistently held on Father's Day weekend in Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson, New York, on the banks of the Hudson River. This event has drawn artists such as Pete Seeger, Bari Koral and the Indigo Girls. Tickets can be purchased in advance for the entire weekend. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a parent or guardian.
