How to Do the Hoedown Throwdown: Written Steps

Dance the "Hoedown Throwdown" and amaze all of your friends. In 2009, pop singer and country music star, Miley Cirus, popularized the "Hoedown Throwdown" in the smash hit "Hannah Montana: The Movie." The dance has several intense moves, but do not let that deter you. Anyone can dance the "Hoedown Throwdown" if you put your mind to it. Follow the lyrics and break the dance down, taking it slowly through each section. Repeat the moves in order -- speeding up as you get the hang of it -- to master the "Hoedown" in no time.

Instructions

    • 1

"Pop it" and "lock it." Stand up straight and lift your left arm straight out in front of you. Crank your right hip out, bend your knees and torso slightly as you bend both arms at a downward angle.

    • 2

"Polka dot it". Take two small steps to the left while pointing your right finger in the air. Wag the finger once every time you step.

    • 3

"Countrify then hip hop it." Tuck your thumbs into your belt as you extend your right foot out and up -- heel to the ground -- followed by your left foot in the same manner. "Hip hop it" by kicking your right foot out with your elbows to the side. Bring your right knee back and plant that foot on the ground.

    • 4

"Put your hawk in the sky." Step out front with the right foot and cross your arms in front of you. Bring your left foot flush against the right while smacking the back of your hands together and bringing your arms back down in the crossed position. The hand motion gives the impression of flapping bird wings. Kick your left foot up when your hands go up and bring both the hands and foot down at the same time.

    • 5

"Go side to side and jump to the left." Keep your arms crossed and twist your torso to the left side and the right. Scoop your left foot up, plant it down and "jump to the left" -- twisting your body to the right -- landing with the right foot in front of you.

    • 6

"Stick it" and "glide." Bring your back foot (the left foot) up and "stick it" next to the right. You are now standing straight up and facing the right. Step back with the left, extend your right arm and "glide" backward with the right foot.

    • 7

"Zigzag 'cross the floor." Move your right foot to the left then to the right and kick it back up behind you so you can touch your right heel. Then, glide to the right two times.

    • 8

"Shuffle in diagonal." Bend your elbows and pump your arms up and down each time you move your feet on this move. Step to the left twice with your right foot in front of you, pumping your arms saying, "Shuf-fle in." Step back diagonal with the left. Move back two steps with your left foot leading the way. Still pumping your arms and finishing, "di-ag-onal." Move on each syllable to keep it tight.

    • 9

Hit the drum during the lyric, "When the drum hits, hands on your hips." Face front and make your right hand into a fist. Punch the air as you kick out with your left foot and step forward. Punch the air with the left fist as you kick out with your right foot. End standing straight with your hands on your hips.

    • 10

Do a "180 twist." Rotate your torso to the right. Step around with your right and face the back. Hop three times on your left foot with your hands in the air, spinning back around to the front with both feet on the ground.

    • 11

"Zigzag" again the same way you did in Step 7. Step to the left and slide the rest of your body to the left.

    • 12

"Lean in left". Extend the left arm out, followed by the right and the left again. Lean back a bit each time you extend your arms. On the last lean, crack your head and shoulders back. Clap three times, swooping your body down to the front and up again. You should be standing again by the third clap.

    • 13

"Shake it out, head to toe." Place your hands on your shoulders and bounce your shoulders and head as you spin in a 360-degree twist to the left.

    • 14

"Throw it all together that's how we roll." Bend forward and punch down with your right hand. Kick your right leg back behind your left heel at the same time. That is "throw it all together." Step back, stand up straight with your head to the sky. Angle your arms and point both hands in the air. That is "how we roll."
