How to Do the Cowboy Dance

The simple yet upbeat rhythms of country music allow you to find a variety of dances that work with it. One of these dances has been standardized -- the Cowboy Dance -- and you'll find cowboys and cowgirls using it in dance halls and country music concerts across the country. Because it only uses a few different moves which are then repeated, the dance lends itself well to line formations.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand straight up with your hands on your hips.

    • 2

Swing your hips to either side and do a grapevine move to the right and then a grapevine move to the left. To begin the grapevine, side step to the right with your right foot, step in front of your right foot with your left foot, side step to the right with your right foot and then step behind with your left foot. To finish the grapevine, do the same sequence of steps to the left starting with your left foot.

    • 3

Step to the right as you come out of the grapevine sequence and then hop to the left.

    • 4

Step to the left and then hop to the right.

    • 5

Walk backwards with your right foot and then your left foot and then your right foot again.

    • 6

Move your hips from side to side a couple of times and then do a quarter turn to the left.

    • 7

Repeat Steps 2 to 6 until the song is over.
