The San Antonio Dance Academy offers hip hop dance classes as well as different levels of jazz dance instruction. The hip hop dance classes are taught at beginners, intermediate and advanced levels. Previous jazz dancing technique is recommended. Cynergy Dance offers hip hop dance classes for children ages 6 years old and up. Dance Plus and the San Antonio School for the Performing Arts likewise offers urban dance instruction.
InStep Dance Studios offers hip hop, jazz and tap classes for all ages. These styles are offered in addition to traditional ballet instruction. Although Munro Ballet Studios is the official dance school of the Corpus Christi Ballet, it also offers dance instruction in other styles such as hip hop, jazz, zumba and lyrical. Another school offering a wide variety of dance styles (including urban dance) is Avant Dance.
Brownsville has a number of dance schools that offer group or one-on-one instruction in urban dance styles. Broadway Dance Studio gives classes in hip hop and jazz as well as salsa, belly dance and pointe. Other dance schools in Brownsville include Bellas Artes Academy of Dance, Dancing @ the Studio and Unlimited Dance. Most of these schools tailor classes for all different ages.
McAllen is the location of Melba's School of Dance, which has been giving dance instruction since 1958. The school's classes are more tailored for children and they include jazz, hip hop and tap. McAllen is also the site of Action Dance Studio, which likewise offers urban dance classes. Laredo, which is roughly a two hour drive from McAllen, is the location of Cristina's School of Dance.
