There are many different types of street dance. Inquire about the styles being taught at your local school to make sure that is the type of street dance you want to learn. Some of the different types include fusion, urban dance, funky and break dance. Much of street dance is also freestyle dance so each teacher will use different choreography.
The usual style of a street dance class starts with 10 to 15 minutes of warmup followed by learning new skills or dance combinations. The length of a class is typically 45 to 60 minutes.
Street dance classes exist for all levels from the beginning dancer to advanced dancers. Beginning classes will focus more on learning dance moves and skills. Advanced classes will focus more on learning new choreography or creating your own combinations.
The dance instructors can make all the difference. A good instructor can teach dance skills in a comfortable environment. A successful street dancer must remain loose and relaxed to channel the beat of the music. If you are not comfortable with your instructor, it will be difficult to remain loose.
