The most comprehensive list, by far, of belly dancing schools is on the Belly Dance Classes website. This user-contributed site features listings for every state. Dance schools are expected to add themselves to the list, and contact information is provided for each school. You can search by state and then narrow the list by city. Some profiles include photos and links to the school's website, but most have only a phone number and email address.
The Sahara Dance School in Washington, D.C., was voted the best dance school in D.C. in 2009 and 2010. The school offers a dozen classes for beginners and more advanced classes for the seasoned belly dancers. In addition to its regular classes, Sahara Dance has monthly workshops and performances to encourage guests and a "Hip Talk" blog as part of an online community of belly dancers.
Another "best in" dance school, the Jasmin Jahal School of Dance was featured in "Chicago Magazine" as the best dance school in the city. The classes at the Jasmin Jahal school are arranged as six-week lessons. Private and group lessons are available. The class schedule is updated each semester (one for each season), and you can register at any time so long as the class has space available.
The Orlando School of Middle-Eastern Dance promises that "your inner goddess awaits." The school -- voted the best dance school in central Florida -- invites women of all ages, sizes and walks of life to participate in the school's wide range of classes. It holds as many as seven classes per night, seven days a week, so finding a class for your skill level won't be a challenge.
