Boasting an eclectic mix of classes, the Dance Company of Minot has been educating students since 1990. Most of its classes cater to younger people, but adults can enjoy hip-hop instruction. Regular classes also include tap and ballet for all levels and teachers offer special classes that teach moves from the 1800s to present day. The school's performance teams showcase their skills at local shows and travel throughout North Dakota to compete.
Founded in 2004, Studio X caters to all students' skill levels in recreation and competitive classes such as hip-hop, jazz and ballet. In its recreational program, dancers take one to five hours of class per week and perform in the studio's shows. To be part of the competitive division, dancers must audition and be willing to travel to about four shows per year. Studio X performs well-known shows for its in-house student productions, such as "A Christmas Carol."
From line dancing to Latin grooving, BrickStudio offers a selection of modern and traditional classes for students of all ages in about 22 sessions per week. Younger students can dance either recreationally or competitively and can perform in holiday shows and recitals. About four times a year, the studio offers four-week long adult courses that teach couples dances, such as swing and cha-cha.
Meeting its mission of promoting healthy lifestyles, the Minot Family YMCA offers a wide variety of fitness classes that have dance themes. For example, it hosts a "Dance Yourself Fit" course which teaches hip-hop and jazz moves while providing a cardiovascular workout. Another option is the popular Zumba workout, which is a high-intensity aerobics class infused with Latin dance elements that can be transferred to the dance floor.
