How to Make a School Pennant

Waving a school pennant during a sporting event is a great way to show your support. Pennants are quite easy to make and take little time or skill. Think outside the box; make your pennant unique by showing your creativity and originality. Pennants can be hung on the walls in a student's room at home or on his locker at school. A school club might even sell handmade school pennants for a fundraiser.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a large triangle for the pattern of the pennant on a piece of paper with a pencil. Also draw on a piece of paper some items to decorate the pennant with such as letters spelling the name of the school. Some other items you can draw on paper to decorate your pennant are sports gear like balls, bats, gloves, goal posts or rackets. You can also draw animals that represent the mascot for the school sports team such as a tiger, bear, bull dog, eagle or alligator. These drawings will be the patterns to be used for making the decorations. Cut out the triangle and all the decoration patterns with a pair of scissors.

    • 2

Place the patterns you cut out on pieces of felt and draw around the patterns with a piece of chalk. Cut the shapes out of the felt with scissors. Glue the decorations on the triangle. If you have enough decorations, place some items on both sides of the triangle. Leave half of an inch free of decorations along the short end of the triangle.

    • 3

Roll the short end of the triangle around the dowel rod and staple the felt securely to the rod. If young children are making the pennants, the felt can also be glued to the rod to prevent injury.
