How to Make a Triangle Out of Clay

Clay is a versatile medium to work with since it can be remolded if the original project does not turn out as intended. It can also be painted to increase its aesthetic appeal. Whether you want to make an impression of your hand print or an elaborate sculpture, you need to know how to make basic shapes as a starting point before you start making 3-D items. If you want to make a pyramid, for example, you need to learn to make triangles in the clay first.

Instructions

    • 1

Roll the clay out with the rolling pin to desired thickness. Don't make it too thin or your triangle will fall apart when you try to use it in a project.

    • 2

Place your ruler in a straight line and cut the clay to form the bottom of the triangle.

    • 3

Place the ruler on the left corner of the bottom of the triangle and lay it diagonal to the right to form a 45 degree angle. Cut the clay to form the left side of the triangle.

    • 4

Move your ruler to the bottom right of your triangle and place it diagonally again, connecting the bottom right corner with the tip formed by the last cut. Cut the clay one last time to form the final side of the triangle.

    • 5

Remove the clay surrounding the triangle.
