Establish who your audience is. Before writing your newsletter, you will need to decide who to target. Will you aim it at parents and teachers, or students? Alternatively, you may decide to encompass both adults and students into your newsletter. Making this decision will allow you to decide how to write your newsletter
Decide how to distribute your newsletter. When it comes to distribution, you have a couple of options. You may choose to print your newsletter and distribute it by hand around the school. You may choose a different route and decide to send your newsletter out by email, which will eliminate the cost of printing.
Choose your software. Purchase a desktop publishing software that you can afford and are comfortable using. You do not need a high-end piece of software, as it will only need to perform a simple function.
Create a template. Use the desktop publisher to create a simple layout for your Newsletter. If you are creating an A4 newsletter, use two or three columns. Save the empty template so you can recycle it for each subsequent newsletter.
Add the text. Choose information that is relevant to school life such as important dates and deadlines, school events, notifications and details of school clubs. You may choose to finish the newsletter with a motivational quote.
Add any images and logos. To make your newsletter look more interesting, add some images to break up the text. Do not use too many, as it will disrupt the informative nature of the newsletter. Include the school's logo at the top of your design so it is clear who the newsletter is from.
Save your newsletter to a PDF format. This will allow everybody to access your newsletter, should you decide to distribute it by email.
