How to Make a 3D Tiger Mask

If your child is interested in learning about endangered species, then teach her about the tiger. For years, the tiger has been hunted for its fur and other body parts, including parts used for medicine. It is the world's largest cat, and each tiger's pattern of stripes is one-of-a-kind. Tigers live in cold and tropical climates and can weigh up to 720 lbs. and grow to 6 feet long. Turn learning into a creative lesson by having your child read poetry and fiction and non-fiction stories about tigers and study tiger stripes. She also can create her own 3-D tiger mask.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a tiger's head, including eyes, nose, mouth, stripes and whiskers, on drawing paper with markers. Cut out your tiger drawing with scissors.

    • 2

Flatten white, soft modeling clay to make it the size of your tiger drawing and 2 to 3 inches thick. Place your tiger drawing on top of the modeling clay, and trace around your tiger's head with a marker. Cut your tiger mask from the modeling clay with the scissors.

    • 3

Crumple newspaper, and place it underneath the modeling clay mask. To make your mask realistic, use additional modeling clay to mold facial features on the mask. Add or cut modeling clay if necessary.

    • 4

Create a thick hanging loop with modeling clay. Mold each end of the hanging loop into the top portion of the back of the tiger mask. Let the tiger mask dry.

    • 5

Cover an area with newspaper, and place the dried tiger mask on top of the newspaper. Paint the mask any color you desire. To make your tiger mask realistic, paint it to resemble tigers in books' pictures. Let your mask's paint dry completely.
