Alabama Comedy Clubs

Compared to many states, Alabama does not have a lot of options when it comes to comedy clubs. Two of the clubs it does have, however, have featured some of the country's biggest names in comedy and offer quality weekly entertainment. An alternative comedy club in Mobile is also very popular with the gay community.

  1. The Stardome

    • Arguably Alabama's best known comedy club, the Stardome in Birmingham stages comedy shows every week from Tuesday through Sunday. The club is closed on Mondays. Most of the shows feature professional comedians, but the club also has open mike nights for amateurs. Additional events include comedy shows that start at midnight and midnight dinner theaters. The Stardome offers casual dining with a menu featuring items such as hamburgers and light food. Its lounge has various drink specials along with a varied selection of wines and beers. Groups can be accommodated and tickets can be purchased on its website. The club has been in operation for 28 years and has featured comedians such as Tim Allen and Sinbad.

    Bonkerz Comedy Club

    • The Bonkerz Comedy Club has multiple locations around the country, including one in Mobile that is located in the Battle House Renaissance Mobile Hotel and Spa. Many famous comedians such as Jerry Seinfeld, Larry The Cable Guy and Carrot Top have performed at a Bonkerz Comedy Club. The shows are held on Fridays at 8 p.m. and on Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per person and to attend the show you must be 21. This makes for an ideal weekend getaway because the comedy club is in a 10,000 square foot luxury hotel with a highly regarded restaurant and a full salon with eight treatment rooms.

    B-Bob's Downtown

    • B-Bob's Downtown in Mobile is not for everyone because it is an alternative night club. The Mobile Bay Monthly Magazine twice named it the Best Gay Bar and a vote by its readers honored it as having the Best Drag Shows. Many of these events are comedy shows that its patrons find highly entertaining. In operation for 17 years, B-Bob's Downtown claims it has Mobile's Largest Liquor Selection and it also has a large floor that often features disco. The club has a college night on Thursdays with shows starting at 12:30 a.m. On Fridays and Saturdays the club's shows begin at midnight. The club can accommodate groups and private parties.
