Click the "Edit" button in the center on the right of the digital number readout. Set the tempo of the song you want to create. Clicking the "Select" button on the left will switch it from Pattern, Bar Beat and Track Channel modes.
Press the "Select" button until the Pattern LED lights up. Select a blank pattern using the data control knob (DCK). Press the "Record" button. Modify the pattern length by moving the cursor using the arrow cursor buttons to the Length (Ln) setting. Use the DCK to set the length value.
Set the Quantize note value by moving the cursor to "Quan" and using the DCK for the specific value. You also have the option of setting the number of "Count In" bars before it actually begins to record.
Press the "Preset" button and select a Preset sound. Tap the pads to hear the sound. Press "Preset" again to return to the Pattern screen. Press "Play" to begin recording. It will loop when it reaches the end. Press "Stop."
Press the "+Track" button on the left of the LCD screen. Press the "Preset" button twice. Press the "Stop" button to return to the beginning of the pattern.
Save the pattern by pressing the "Save/Copy" button. Move the cursor to the bottom and select the destination where the pattern will be saved. Press "Enter." Repeat Steps 2 through 6 for each subsequent track.
Press the "Song" mode button. Select a Bank Song to begin recording. Press "Record" twice to select Step Record mode. This can be verified by looking at the record mode LEDs in the top right.
Turn the DCK to select a pattern. Press "Enter" to choose the pattern and move to the next in the sequence. You can press the "Play" button to audition the pattern before selecting it. Repeat the process until finished then press "Stop."
Save your new song by pressing the "Save/Copy" button. Select the save location then press "Enter."
