The Southern Illinois Music Festival is a three-week festival in Carbondale, Illinois that runs from mid-June to early July. The festival features three dozen performances in genres such as opera, ballet, jazz, orchestral and chamber music. Performers from North and South America, Europe and Asia make their way to the Southern Illinois Music Festival. The majority of the performances, held at venues suc has McKendree University in Lebanon and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, are free. The 2010 festival, centered on a Romeo and Juliet theme, features acts such as the Eroica Trio, the Chicago Chamber Orchestra and The New Arts Jazztet. The festival offers opportunities to young musicians, including music camps in jazz improvisation and junior high band as well as Klassics for Kids series.

The Southern Illinois Irish Festival, held in Turkey Park in Carbondale, Illinois, is a three-day event "celebrating the music, the spirit and the traditions of Celtic peoples," according to its website. It celebrates its 13th year in 2010 with acts such as The Willis Clan and Mother Grove, performing on two stages. Approximately 25,000 to 30,000 vehicles visit the site each day of the festival. The festival features an Irish pub night and fish fry, children's games, adult athletic competitions, malt whiskey tasting and a Celtic Fair with a variety of vendors selling food, crafts and clothing for two of the three days.

The Gateway Dulcimer Music Festival is held the second weekend of August at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows Visitor Center in Belleville, Illinois. Concerts take place on Friday and Saturday evenings, featuring mountain and hammer dulcimer performers, as well as autoharp, fiddle and guitar players.. The festival also features music workshops, music-related vendors, raffles and jam sessions and a hymn singing on Sunday morning. Festivalgoers are invited to sign up to perform on the festivals' open stage. The price of registration includes a soup and salad buffet lunch.
