Hip Hop and R&B Clubs in Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta is one of the most popular spots in the country for rap, R&B and hip-hop. Several rap, hip-hop and R&B artists and producers live in Atlanta including T.I., Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs and Usher. As a result, a number of restaurants, bars and clubs in Atlanta cater to these musical styles. Many hip-hop clubs in Atlanta require "upscale" attire: no jeans, T-shirts or baseball caps are allowed. Men usually wear suits; women usually wear cocktail dresses.
  1. West Side

    • Hip-hop artist T.I. owns Club Crucial, billed as "the west-side hot spot for Dirty South rap!" Crucial offers food and drink, and sponsors celebrity showcases on Sundays. Crucial does not require upscale attire except on certain nights. Ellery's is an R & B club that offers an upscale environment, smooth music and dancing. It also hosts a step show on Thursdays. Upscale dress is required. Figure 8 is a restaurant and lounge that offers food, drinks and dancing, as well as DJs and live music, in a casual environment. Unlike most Atlanta clubs, it offers free on-site parking.

    Downtown and Midtown

    • E.S.S.O. offers hip-hop and R&B music, drinks and dancing. This club is open every weekend. Upscale dress is required. Opera is one of the largest and most popular clubs in the city. Opera offers a mix of music, including hip-hop and R&B. It also sponsors hip-hop events. This club does not require upscale dress except on certain nights. Club Life is known for its "First Class Fridays," during which only cocktail attire is allowed. Life requires reservations for this event. Club Sub Zero is located at historic Underground Atlanta and is a hot-spot for visiting celebrities. Upscale attire is not required, but is "recommended." Compound is one of Atlanta's largest clubs. It features indoor and outdoor areas for drinking and dancing. Ladies are admitted for free on Saturday night until11:30pm. Compound recommends upscale dress.

    • Club Libra, which had closed after several years in business, reopened in 2009 due to popular demand. It features over 20 flat screen TVs, numerous dance floors and a VIP area. Open only on weekends, Club Libra is a favorite spot for visiting celebrities and requires upscale dress.
