Subterranean features a wide variety of live shows every day of the week in the upstairs portion of the building, including hip hop shows. Some shows are all ages, some are for patrons who are 17 or older, and others are only for people who are over 21. Hip-hop music is also played by DJs in Subterranean's lounge, but these shows are 21-and-over only. The lounge has a dining area that is open from 6 p.m. to midnight daily and features favorites such as quesadillas, buffalo mushrooms and jambalaya. The menu also includes a good selection of soups, salads and sandwiches.

Some of the biggest bands in the music industry have performed at the Metro, which opened in 1982 and has featured bands such as Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins. Prince and James Brown have also played the Metro along with various hip hop artists. The shows are divided up into different age groups. The early shows are for people of all ages and end by 10 p.m.. The late shows begin at 9 p.m. or later and are for patrons who are 18 and over. Also in the club is the Smart Bar, which serves alcohol to patrons who are 21 and older. The theater's capacity is 1,150 and has both a main floor and balcony.

Club Volkan is a favorite among the 18-and-older crowd and has three different rooms that all have their own ambiance and play different kinds of music. One of the rooms specializes in hop hop, while another features Latino rock. The spacious club, which has three different levels, has a huge dance floor that features live bands, DJs and an elaborate light show. Club Volkan has a dress code and a coat-check. The club is open Thursdays through Sundays and is also available to host private events.
