Open since 1961, the Bitter End can boast being New York City's oldest rock club. Located at 147 Bleeker Street, the club is open for ages 21 and over with valid identification. Cover charges vary depending on event and performers. Stars that have performed at the Bitter End include Woody Allen, the Chambers Brothers, the Indigo Girls, Jay Leno, Bob Dylan and Neil Young. Owner Paul Colby continues to bring in a large variety of folk artists, comics and rock musicians.
Decorated in the art-deco style, the Bowery Ballroom offers music, views and drinks. Purchase tickets online, over the phone, or with cash at the door. Tickets range in price depending on the artist. Age restrictions vary by show. Most shows are for 18 and over, but some shows allow patrons as young as 16. All shows require a valid ID to gain entrance. Performers have included Patti Smith, the Black Crowes, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and REM.
Most often featuring alternative and indie acts, the Irving Plaza offers a variety of artists. Located at 17 Irving Place, the plaza is open to all ages unless otherwise specified. Guests under 16 years old must be accompanied by parent or guardian. If you are over 21 and would like to drink, bring at least two pieces of valid identification to get an "okay to order drinks" wristband. Personal cameras are allowed, but no video or flash photography. You can purchase tickets online or at the box office.
With a huge range of musical genres, Le Poisson Rouge offers a fusion of theater, dancing and fine art. The venue can seat up to 250 guests or 700 people standing. Tickets are available online, over the phone or at the box office which is open daily from 5 p.m. to close. Two bars offer food such as truffled mac and cheese, jumbo lump crab rolls and nachos as well as drinks. Membership packages are available and provide for free entrance to shows and free drinks.
