Famous Comedy Shows in NYC

New York City is famous for its booming nightlife and spectacular shows. The city is home to world-famous Broadway theaters, and has long been a cultural center for music, theater and comedy acts. Manhattan is home to several comedy clubs where well-known comics perform nightly or weekly. Comedians like Jerry Seinfeld, Tim Allen and Roseanne Barr found fame and fortune after working the NYC comedy club circuit. These clubs still host--and discover--the country's up and coming comedians. For about $50, you can see a great comedy show over cocktails.

    The Gotham Comedy Club

    • This 3,300-square-foot comedy club was opened in May 1996 by New Yorkers Chris Mazzilli and Michael Reisman. The Gotham Comedy Club strove to change the presentation of comedy shows by providing ambiance along with the show. What has developed is a nightclub-style comedy theater that is reminiscent of the early days of theater-going. Since its debut, this majestic club has hosted several television comedy specials and movies, such as Jerry Seinfeld's film "Comedian" and Larry David's "Curb Your Enthusiasm" pilot. Comedy Central's weekly television series "Live at Gotham" introduces six up-and-coming comedians during an hour of comedy. The Gotham has several upcoming holiday 2009 comedy specials, and shows by comedians Adam Ferrara and Gary Gulman. As of Winter 2009, tickets are $30 for general admission and $45 for VIP admission; there is a two-item food and beverage minimum.
