How to Install Multiple Live Packs With Ableton

Live Packs add extra instruments and sounds to your Ableton digital audio workstation. They can contain samples, MIDI tracks and even entire sets. Instead of hosting individual clips on their websites, sound designers, artists and composers can compress many samples into an easily-distributable Live Pack. Some websites give away Live Packs for free, some require registration to download them and others offer commercial Ableton Live Packs for a fee. With Ableton 7 and later versions, you can install multiple Live Packs simultaneously.

Instructions

    • 1

Download a Live Pack and save it to your Desktop. Continue downloading as many Live Packs as you want to install in Ableton.

    • 2

Right-click one of the downloaded Live Packs. Click "Extract All" then click "Extract." Repeat the process for all of the Live Packs you downloaded. Extracted Live Packs use the Ableton logo as their icon and have the extension ".alp."

    • 3

Click the Start menu button, type "Live" into the search box and click the Ableton Live icon to launch the program. Minimize Live using the button in the top right-hand corner of the program window.

    • 4

Click the first extracted Ableton Live Pack on the Desktop. Hold down "Ctrl" and click each of the other extracted Live Packs in turn. Release "Ctrl." Click one of the Live Packs and hold down the mouse button.

    • 5

Press "Alt" and "Tab" together to switch back to Ableton Live. Drag the Live Packs into the "Live Devices" section of the Live window and release the mouse button to install them in Ableton.
