How to Import Audio With No Warping in Ableton

When you import audio into Ableton Live, the program alters it to match the tempo using one of six different warping algorithms, depending on the software's settings. Warping audio is useful when, for example, you're dropping a drum loop into a DJ set and want it to automatically match the rhythm of the existing tracks. If you're editing vocals or other similar audio in Ableton, however, you may want to preserve the audio's original tempo. To do this, disable warping for the clip. You can either turn off warping for a single clip or configure Ableton to import all audio without warping.

Instructions

  1. Single Clip

Launch Ableton. Click one of the folder icons next to the "Browser" pane, which is located to the left of the mixer window.

    • 2

Navigate to the audio clip you want to import. Drag and drop the clip onto an audio channel in the mixer window.

    • 3

Click the yellow "Warp" button in the "Sample" window near the bottom of the screen to disable warping for the audio clip.
