How to Use MIDI Files With Mixcraft

MIDI song files contain no actual music: rather, a MIDI file is a series of standardized instructions that tells a digital instrument or music program how to play a series of notes. MIDI files come in two varieties: clips and songs. A MIDI clip simply contains a series of MIDI notes, while a MIDI song contains several music tracks, each with its own associated instrument. A MIDI song might, for example, contain one track each for the guitar part, the bass part and the drum part of a song. You can use both MIDI clips and MIDI songs in Mixcraft.

Instructions

  1. MIDI Clips

    • 1

Start Mixcraft. Click the piano keyboard icon next to "Build Virtual Instrument Tracks."

    • 2

Click "Sound" in the top menu bar, then click "Add Sound File." Navigate to the MIDI clip file you want to load into Mixcraft and double-click it.

    • 3

Click the piano keyboard icon under "Instrument Track." Select the instrument that you want to play the MIDI clip. Click the "Close Window" button.

    • 4

Double-click the MIDI clip. Click and drag the notes in the MIDI clip to change them to new positions, if desired. Click the "Play" button to listen to the MIDI clip.

    MIDI Songs

    • 5

Launch Mixcraft. Click "File," then "Open Project."

    • 6

Navigate to the folder containing the MIDI song file you want to use in Mixcraft.

    • 7

Double-click the MIDI file to open it. Mixcraft automatically opens each part of the MIDI song in its own track and applies the correct instrument to each track.
