Connect your MIDI-enabled keyboard to a PC with Mixcraft installed. If your keyboard only has a MIDI output, connect it to a MIDI-to-USB interface, then plug the interface into a USB port on your computer. Alternatively, if your computer's sound card has a MIDI input, you can plug the keyboard directly into your PC. If your keyboard has a USB output, just connect the keyboard to a free USB port on your computer.
Launch the Mixcraft software program. Click "Track," then "Insert Track" and then "Virtual Instrument Track." Click the piano keyboard icon in the new track.
Click an instrument category like "Bass" or "Acoustic Guitar." Click on an instrument name in the "Instrument Preset" column. Click "Close Window."
Play the MIDI keyboard to control the virtual instrument in Mixcraft. Depending on your keyboard, some or all of it's knobs and auxiliary controls will control certain functions on the virtual instrument in Mixcraft.
