How to Use MIDI with an Akai MPC1000

The Akai Music Production Center (MPC) 1000 allows you to record music samples from CDs and external musical instrument digital interface (MIDI) devices. The sampler includes up to 16 megabytes (MB) of memory and the ability to sequence 64 tracks. The Akai MPC1000 is beneficial for DJ and musical artists adding electronic elements into their music. In order to record samples from your MIDI keyboard, you must make sure that you properly connect it to you MPC1000.

      Connect your external MIDI device to the MPC1000 by connecting a cord from the MIDI OUT port of MIDI keyboard to the MIDI IN port of the MPC1000.

      Use a cable cord to connect the MIDI OUT port of the MPC1000 to the MIDI IN port of your MIDI device.

      Select the "MIDI" option from the "Type" field on your MPC1000 and then select the "OFF" option from the "Pgm" field.

      Play on your MIDI keyboard to make sure you can hear it through the MPC1000. Determine what you want to record onto your MPC1000 from your MIDI keyboard.

      Press the "Play Start" button on the MPC1000 while holding down the "Rec" button. The recording will begin after a four-second countdown.

      Press the "Stop" button on the MPC1000 to stop the MIDI recording. You will then have a recorded sample from your MIDI keyboard.
