Rohnert Park's only theater, the Rohnert Park 16, is at 555 Rohnert Park Expressway West. It is owned by Reading Cinemas, a group that owns and operates eight movie theaters in San Diego, northern California and New Jersey. The Rohnert holds a special "Crybaby Matinee" on Wednesday at 1 p.m. for new parents. Brighter lights, a stroller valet and lower sound allow parents to catch a movie without the need for a babysitter. Student discounts are available, including a free 85 oz. popcorn and free refills.
Less than 15 minutes north of Rohnert Park and minutes from Annadel State Park, the Roxy is in Santa Rosa on Santa Rosa Ave. Santa Rosa Mall is across the street. The Roxy is part of SR Entertainment Group, a family owned and operated business since 1972 that has ties to the theater business since the 1920s. Parking is free on weekends and holidays.
Boulevard 14 Cinemas is one of 12 northern California theaters owned by Cinema West Theaters. Located 20 minutes from Rohnert Park in downtown Petaluma's theater district on Petaluma Boulevard, it is footsteps away from restaurants and cafes, spas and retail outlets. The Boulevard also offers group events that must be arranged two weeks in advance. Free parking is available in the Theater District Parking Garage.
Purchased in late 2010 by the Tocchini family of SR Entertainment Group, Summerfield Cinemas shows independent, art and foreign films. Summerfield Cinemas was formerly the Rialto Cinema, but the new owners have kept the independent film niche and quaint atmosphere. For dinner and a movie, Mary's Pizza Shack and East West Cafe neighbor Summerfield on either side. The Summerfield is 20 minutes from Rohnert Park on Summerfield Road in Santa Rosa.
