Start by popping or locking, which is ideal for crowded or busy situations, such as a club or packed dance floor. Get a feel for the beat and begin to jerkily move your arms and shoulders in time to the beat. This will make you look like you are a pro, since this is how they generally start at the beginning of a routine. Continue with your hips and legs, if you feel confident.
Do a military feel dance, which is a simple hip-hop move. Standing tall, begin marching on the spot in time to the music. Place your left arm out straight to the side and bring your right arm across your chest, with your fingertips pointing left. Turn your head to the left, and then switch it across to the right. Switch your arms with your head, so that your right arm is now extended and your left arm is across your chest. Repeat this move in time to the beat.
Grind with a member of the opposite sex if you have run out of moves. If you are a boy, a girl usually grinds on you. Maneuver yourself behind her and let her do the work. If you are a girl, grind involves slowly dancing, placing your body weight on the boy behind you. Grinding is one of the most simple hip hop dance styles.
Be confident. The simplest hip hop dance moves are ones you make up while dancing to hip hop music. By dancing in time to the beat and by being confident, it won't matter that what you are dancing isn't a recognized hip hop move.
