You can choose a Western theme for your students' dance party. Encourage students to wear Western attire such as cowboy hats, fringe vests, denim and boots to get into the spirit. Remind students that they still need to obey the school dress code. Play county music for the dancers. You can also have a square dance, because this works well with a Western theme.
Plan a disco ball for your Christian school students to enjoy. Choose some '70s classics such as "Boogie Shoes" and "I Will Survive" so the children can show off their best disco moves. Invite parents to demonstrate some "Saturday Night Fever" steps they remember. Encourage the school's administrator to dress in a white suit to add to the good time.
You can plan for an event held at an outside facility such as a roller rink. Many facilities offer economical group rates and will cater to the type of party you desire. Have the students practice roller skate "dancing" to a contemporary Christian music soundtrack. They'll enjoy the unique atmosphere. Don't worry about those who don't skate -- most roller rinks provide other areas with games and activities in addition to the rink.
Have your students participate in an event that focuses on social etiquette. Prepare them by teaching quadrille and other traditional dances. Encourage students to dress in their Sunday best, complete with white gloves for the girls, when it's time for the big event. Turn the school gym into a makeshift ballroom and serve finger foods and punch.
Get students excited about a line dance event. This type of event is especially appropriate for younger children who are yet ready to pair off into girl and boy couples dancing. Popular and easy to learn line dances include the Cha Cha Slide, Electric Slide, Boot Scoot Boogie and Cupid Shuffle. Add in some fun single dances such as the classic Macarena and Chicken Dance and everyone will have a blast.
