Country Dance Clubs in North Carolina

In North Carolina, country music and dancing are as popular as ever. From boot scootin’ to square dancing to contra, country dancers are out and about looking for places to kick up their heels. Country dance clubs are scattered all around North Carolina from the big city clubs all the way to the small town dance halls.
  1. Coyote Joe’s

    • Coyote Joe’s in Charlotte has the largest dance floor in the area and is the self-proclaimed premier country nightclub in the Southeast. Open since 1991, Coyote Joe’s regularly hosts major country music acts on its main stage and offers dancing to live country music performed by its house band Out of The Blue three nights per week.

The club has a booming sound system and a high-end lighting system to match. The club is members only, but memberships are handed out as easily as the beer. Memberships can be obtained at the front door for $1.

Among the live country acts that have performed at Coyote Joe’s are Garth Brooks, Travis Tritt, Charlie Daniels, Brooks and Dunn and many more. The dance club does not serve food but is located near many restaurants. Coyote Joe’s is open from 7 p.m. until 2 a.m. every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

    Square Heels

    • Far from the hustle and bustle of the city is Square Heels, a square dancing club located in the Binkley Baptist Church in the college town of Chapel Hill. This traditional square dance takes place every Friday at 7 p.m. and calls it quits at a conservative 10 p.m. Square dance callers Jimmy Roberson and Bob Price call the dance from the stage and will let you know when to swing your partner.

Square Heels Dance Club also offers dancing lessons during 1 hour each week. The instructors teach traditional and round dancing. Calling ahead is recommended for those wishing to take part in this old-time activity.

    The Wagon Wheel

    • Out past the city limit sign of Bostick, the Wagon Wheel Country and Western Dance Club provides this rural area with plenty of action every Saturday night. The Wagon Wheel features a house band called The Broken Axle Band that performs, and a large dance floor serves its purpose for fans of line dancing, two-stepping and the simple back and forth rock of those folks not yet comfortable with the more advanced moves.

The floor is divided into three sections. The two-step dancers, line dancers and the novices all have their own designated area of the floor so they do not interfere with one another. The Wagon Wheel is family friendly and offers concessions and games to keep the youngsters busy while the adults dance the evening away.
