How to Build a Clogging Dance Floor

But in the end, it will save you hundreds of dollars to build one yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a level to determine whether the area where you want your dance floor is perfectly even. If building a dance floor outdoors, rake or shovel the ground until it is level.

    • 2

Arrange the particleboard sheets over the flat surface or ground and mark with a pencil if they need to be trimmed. Saw to trim.

    • 3

Determine where to put the strips of particleboard underneath the sheets by marking where each sheet meets on the ground or surface below, using a pencil to draw a line. Remove the particle board sheets and place the strips down on each joint, according to your marks. Place strips around the entire perimeter of the dance floor.

    • 4

Stack the particle board sheets over the joining strips and drill small holes through both the sheets and strips every 3 inches on both sides of the joints and all the way to the corners of the sheets.

    • 5

Screw in the 1-inch screws into all of the pre-drilled holes.

    • 6

Optional: Measure and cut metal or plastic dance floor edging to edge your new dance floor if desired. Screw in place. Finish the floor with wood stain and polish for a smooth and attractive surface.
