El Paso Line Dance Steps

Country line dancing is America's most popular dance. The El Paso style line dance is particularly enjoyable because it is performed while holding hands with your partner and therefore is an intimate way to share a common passion for dance. The El Paso line dance is fun, simple and takes but a few moments to learn.
  1. Positioning

    • You and your dance partner should be standing side by side. The male dancer should hook his right arm over the female dancer's right shoulder and grasp her right hand with his right hand. He should hold her left hand with his left hand, just in front of her left shoulder. This is the position in which the El Paso line dance begins.

    Movement

    • Once the music starts, both dancers begin to move their feet at the same time. Start with the right foot, taking the right toe to touch forward to the ground (about one foot forward) and then touch the right heel backward to the beginning position and bring the right foot forward again. Repeat with the left foot (both dancers beginning at the same time) by touching the left toe forward, bringing the left heel back and bringing the left toe forward again.

    Completion

    • Repeat the movement again, this time adding a half turn to the left at the return of the left foot to the position at the beginning of the dance. Once you've completed the left half turn, you may begin the dance steps again, starting with the right foot and following through to the left heel return to the beginning position. After you've completed the return of the left heel, simply do another half turn to the left, and follow the dance steps again.
