Comedy Clubs in Western New York

Western New York borders Canada and sits off the shores of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. The region's major cities are Buffalo, Rochester and Niagara Falls. The area is known for its long and cold winters. People looking to stay warm can attend shows at the handful of comedy clubs in the region. You can even take a class to learn the ins and outs of comedy.
  1. Buffalo ComedySportz

    • Buffalo ComedySportz performs the kind of comedy that was showcased on the former ABC show "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" The improv comedians don't have any scripts or memorized jokes. Instead, two teams of comedians play one another by performing scenes and skits from audience suggestions. The ComedySportz company has homes in 20 cities throughout the country and the United Kingdom. Most shows are geared for the family and all ages. "IMF shows," held the second and fourth Saturday of the month, are 18 and older. Buffalo ComedySportz also holds classes that teach the craft of improv and standup comedy.

    The Comedy Club

    • The Comedy Club brings touring comedians to the Rochester area such as veteran Dom Irrera and Jim Norton of the "The Opie & Anthony Show" on satellite radio. The club also has comedy showcases that feature the area's fledgling comics, improv and sketch shows and comedy magic performances. While shows are geared toward the 21-and-older crowd, people 17 to 20 can attend with a parent. Performances are held Thursday to Saturday. The Comedy Club serves drinks and food, including burgers, salads and appetizers.

    Village Idiots

    • The Village Idiots hold improv shows ranging from teams playing one another to performers putting on a play based off the audience's suggestions. Some shows are appropriate for 13 and older. Anyone can become an "idiot" by attending classes. They teach three skill levels. If you attend a minimum of two rehearsals a month, you have a chance of performing on stage. Future comedians can also take classes without having to perform in front of an audience.
