If you're going to see comedy in New York, Comic Strip Live is a good start. According to the venue's website, it has launched the careers of more major stars than any other comedy venue. Big names such as Eddie Murphy, Adam Sandler and Sarah Silverman all got started on the Comic Strip Live stage. Because weekend shows frequently sell out, reservations are recommended. There is a cover charge and a two drink minimum per person.

Since 1996, Gotham Comedy Club has played host to a number of top comedians including Dave Chapelle, Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" fame. The club features a New Talent Showcase, where you'll find a mix of up-and-coming comics. Comics from the Comedy Central channel, HBO and various late night talk shows also frequently appear.
