Place the original CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive. Windows may ask you if you want to open the disc with Windows Media Player. If so, click "Yes." Otherwise, open Windows Media Player from the Start menu. Click on the CD in the left-hand panel.
Click "Rip Settings" on the Windows Media Player toolbar, select "Audio Quality," and choose "192 Kbps (Best Quality). Click "Rip CD" on the toolbar. Windows Media Player will rip the CD to the "Music" folder, unless otherwise specified. To change the location of ripped files, select "Rip Settings" on the toolbar, choose "More Options" from the drop-down list, and use the "Change" button to set the location.
Remove the original CD and insert a blank CD-R or CD-RW into the CD-ROM drive once Windows Media Player has finished ripping the CD. CD-RW discs are re-writable, meaning that you can record to them over and over. CD-Rs are your best option for copying music, as they are cheaper and will play in most car and home stereos.
Click the "Burn" tab on the Windows Media Player toolbar and select "Audio CD" to burn a music CD. Select "Data CD" if you want to copy data from one CD to another.
Select the songs or data to copy. You can copy an entire album or just select songs. Drag the songs from the "Details" pane (located in the middle of the library) to the "List" pane (located on the right side of the library.)
Click "Start Burn." Windows will copy the CD to the blank CD. The status of the copying will be shown on the screen. If there are any problems, a dialog box will pop up on your screen indicating that there was an error.
