How to Avoid a CD Copy

Adding copy protection to your CD's can help prevent your work from being illegally distributed on the Internet. While potentially anyone could benefit from CD protection, artists or people who need to keep backups of sensitive information should be particularly aware of its importance. Thankfully, the process of adding copy protection to a CD is a fairly straightforward one, and even casual computer users can create their own protected CD's at home, using free or shareware software.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Download the WTM CD Protect from the Webtoolmaster website (see Resources) and install it. Since this program is shareware, you can either choose to use it for free or donate money to its developers.

    • 2

Install WTM CD Protect on your computer and launch the program.

    • 3

Insert a blank CD in your PC's CD burning drive.

    • 4

In WTM CD Protect, click on the "Wizard" button. You can then select any CD image file on your computer. Image files can be created with regular CD burning software such as Nero Burning ROM.

    • 5

Select the correct file type from the list. It can either be an audio CD or a data CD.

    • 6

Click on "Protect" in order to start the burning process.
