How to Nudge in Pro Tools 8

With nudging, you can move audio in Pro Tools 8 slightly forward or backward. This feature is especially useful for minute adjustments that cannot easily be completed using the grabber tool. The distance that the nudge function moves an audio region is controlled by the nudge value. To nudge a region a given distance, you must first set the nudge value to that distance. Without first setting the nudge value to your desired specifications, you might accidentally nudge the audio too much or too little.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the drop-down arrow in the "Nudge Value" menu.

    • 2

Select the "Nudge Value" category of your choice. You can set it to bars and beats, minutes and seconds, or samples. Select the actual nudge value. For example, if the nudge value category is set to bars and beats, you might select 1/16 note as the nudge value. Or, if the nudge value category is set to minutes and seconds, you might select 1/4 a second as the nudge value.

    • 3

Choose the "Grabber" tool and select the region you wish to nudge.

    • 4

Press the "+" key to nudge the region forward or press the "-" key to nudge the region backward by the specified nudge value.
