Instructions on How to Hook Up a Cartable Reverb

Reverb, or reverberation, refers to the way sound is reflected. This informs the listener as to the size of a room and how far away they are from the sound source. Reverberation can also produce echoes, which can follow each other very closely or after several seconds. These effects can be used to modify the sound coming from an instrument if a cartable, or portable, reverb effect is used. If a reverb effect is referred to as "cartable," this may mean that it is meant to be mounted onto a rack, which can be carried on a cart. A reverb effect can be hooked up to a mixer or a single instrument.

    • 2

Plug a cable from the output of the reverb unit to the input of the Aux Send.

    • 3

Turn the reverb on and set the mix to 100% "wet" or full reverb.

    • 4

Turn the effect on for each individual track when mixing and adjust the amount of reverb with Aux Send or Effect knob on that particular track. You can add reverb to all, some or none of the tracks.

Hook the Reverb a Single Instrument

    • 5

Unplug the chosen instrument from the recording gear or mixer.

    • 6

Take the plug that comes from the output of the instrument and plug it into the input of the reverb.

    • 7

Plug the output of the reverb to the input of the recording gear or mixer.

    • 8

Adjust reverb levels for the individual mixer on the portable reverb machine itself.
