How to Hook Up a Monitor to Eurodesk Mixers

Eurodesks are a line of large format professional mixers by Behringer. The various models in the series include a wide variety of features for a variety of specific recording contexts, but all resemble traditional analog mixers in general form and function. A single Eurodesk mixer can handle a complete studio setup, from microphones and instrument inputs to monitor speakers. All Eurodesk mixers have dedicated output ports for studio monitors of almost any size.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the Eurodesk mixer off before connecting it to monitor speakers. This prevents unexpected feedback or other unexpected noise when making connections.

    • 2

Locate the Eurodesk’s Main Out section. It is located in the upper left corner of the main interface on all models. All Eurodesks offer at least two main mix outputs, one of which is intended for monitors. It will be labeled “Monitor Out" or “Control Room Out.” The monitor connectors will be a pair of standard 1/4-inch TRS ports. The two connectors in each case correspond to the left and right stereo channels. It is not possible to sum both channels to a single mono output on any Eurodesk model -- two monitor speakers must be used to hear the complete output.

    • 3

Connect one end of a stereo 1/4-inch TRS cable to the Main Out ports on the Eurodesk. Most audio cables of this type will be color-coded: one connector will be red, the other white.

    • 4

Connect the other end of the stereo TRS cable to the monitor speakers’ input ports. Make sure that the correct connectors are plugged into each speaker. For example, if the connector attacked to the Eurodesk's left main out port is white, connect the white connector at the other end of the cable to the left monitor speaker.

    • 5

Turn the Eurodesk on. Its main mix output will now be routed through your monitor speakers.
