How to Remove Vocals in Pro Tools

A quick and useful way to remove vocals in Pro Tools is by making the vocal track or tracks inactive. Doing so will make it so that the vocals cannot be heard and that their tracks do not use up processing power on your computer. This method of removing vocals in Pro Tools is especially useful because it does not completely remove the vocals from your Pro Tools session. In the event that you ever want to use the vocals at a later point in time, you can make the tracks active again in a few clicks of your mouse.

Instructions

    • 1

Select the vocal track or tracks you want to remove from your Pro Tools session by clicking on the vocal track name or names. To select multiple vocal track names at the same time, press control and click the track names on a PC or press command and click the track names on a Macintosh.

    • 2

Click “Track” in the menu at the top of Pro Tools.

    • 3

Select “Make Inactive” from this menu and the vocal track or tracks will turn gray. The color change will signal that the tracks are inactive and cannot be heard.

    • 4

Select the vocal track or tracks, click the “Track” menu and choose “Make Active” if you wish to turn the vocal tracks back on.
