How to Remove a Vocal Track From a Mix in Pro Tools

If you do not want to use a vocal track in your Pro Tools mix, the most efficient way to remove it is by making the vocal track inactive. This will turn the track off so that it is not heard. When the track is made inactive, it will also save on the amount of processing power your computer uses to run the Pro Tools session. If you ever want to use the vocal track at a later time, you can simply make the track active again.

Instructions

    • 1

Click to highlight the track name of the vocal track you want to remove from your Pro Tools mix.

    • 2

Click the "Track" menu at the top of your computer screen.

    • 3

Select "Make Inactive" from the drop-down "Track" menu. The track will become grayed out when inactive.

    • 4

Highlight the inactive track, click the "Track" menu and select "Make Active" if you wish to re-activate the track.
